why does the government spend so much money keeping it illegal? I know there are other reasons why, like a reason to deport Mexican immigrants years ago, but that doesn't seem logical.

I meant that criminalizing something because the gov. can't tax it and then spending insane amounts of money keeping it that way seems illogical and contradictory.

There is one main reason that marijuana is still illegal.

You develop a test that will measure the amount of influence the weed has over a driver on the site and you have destroyed most of the reasons for keeping it illegal.

And the Democrats would love to have something new to tax.

Actually, it was the Marijuana Tax Act that first made it illegal, imposing a rediculous amount of tax on the stuff. This was the result of a frenzy whipped up by among others, DuPont Chemical and Hurst Newspapers. Read the article in the link below. Hemp was never called marijuana untill the need arose to use racial stereotyping in the campaign to rid the world of the "killer" weed. Some Senators and Representatives would never have gone along if they had known that they were outlawing the important and extremely useful crop, hemp.

Well i dont know if it can cant be taxed, but it doesnt make since for it to be illegal. If it were legal people could buy it from more trust worthy people and not get other sicknesses from it, it would keep alot of people out of jails and prisons which are getting full (maybe just in texas). It would lower the amount of violence because of fights over marijuana. It does similar effects as acohol and thats legal. I DO NOT smoke marijuana and never will-so no im not a pot head just saying this because i want it legalized. If they were to legalize it it should be for 21+ people just like alcohol is.

No, the government could easily tax it, it's because of the oil companies that it''s still illegal. Someone found that a cleaner burning fuel can be made from it and the cost would be cheaper for the consumer so they pay ALL presidential candidates heavy to keep it illegal.
