I was just chatting with my brother, an Infantryman who is soon to deploy to Iraq. While we were talking about the political climate, he stated that by electing Bush twice and particularly the second term election they failed the troops by placing them in a badly planned war with no strategy.

Thoughts?

This is hard because when you are a part of the military the master and commander is you president and you as a troop follow orders to the line. We the people need to make sure that the president that is elected next year does a better job. yes we needed to go to war in the first place but some times why we went to war and why we are still there is lost 6 years latter. God bless our troops and you brother for serving our country. may all be well for him and you and that we bring some kind of resolve soon. War is hell I know i was there in 94 and the gulf changed my life forever

I would agree with him. Clever man your brother. Better vote for Ron Paul. Fight the terrorists over there lol. Is George Bush trying to tell people that because American troops are dying in Iraq for him, that Al Qaeda are somehow unable to perpetrate any attacks on American soil? So if he hadn't gone to war and all the US troops were at home, he wouldn't have been able to boost security in the US enough to stop the terrorists from striking again, that the only reason there hasn't been an attack on US soil is because the troops are over in Iraq getting killed there instead of the US? Really? I mean come on. REALLY?

I think its more of a America has lost the heart to see a difficult time through. Bush stated that the war on terrorism would not be easy. He stated that outing Saddam would be easy, but dealing with the aftermath would take years. The American people said yes, lets do it. Then when it got tough, the response was, 'Oh, this isn't how you said it would be. You said it would be easy. Now people are dying, it costs a lot of money. We shouldn't be over there.' Well, what did the American public think was going to happen. Don't blame Bush for the ignorance of the average joe.

No, Bush and company placed the troops in a badly planned war with no strategy.

The American electorate made a mistake giving Bush a second four years, but it is still Bush and company who have no strategy and are badly misunderstanding the situation in the middle east.

Seems to me that the government and most of the the American people are too busy fighting within themselves to even care about the troops.

So I guess we fail the troops everyday when we waste our time complaining about Bush instead of getting off our butts and doing something about it.

There are no well planned wars, only well planned battles... once the shooting starts, its a continual re-evaluation process. History is always kind to the victors and forgets their missteps and the inevitable tragedies of war. I wish your brave brother well and thank him for his sacrifice. I'm sure he will do his best every day even in a poorly planned war.

It's not really the people that failed them, many donated food and supplies to Iraq, and many people didn't want Bush in the second time. The second term for Bush was "rigged" because of the electorial college votes. Not the people.

Yes the troops were failed, but only by the liberals.

I respect how courageous and noble your brother is.
He must be one of the many that wish to return home and be done with this turmoil. However, many troops still want to stay in Iraq.
Only history will tell what we should or should not have done for the troops.

That happened with the Congressional Authorization to allow the President to use force! YES, we did!

I wrote my Congressman and Senators (plus Senators not in my state in powerful positions) at the time begging them not to do it. I tried, but failed to stop it.
