She is a strong (Government does best) but when cornered she's big onState rights. Will this kind of Flip-Flopping result in abortion, really turn it in a states rights issue?

To: Dan Your point is well taken, but the Word Legal status is often required. Giving legal driving status gives, legal access to the country, security of all other states is subject to the one, For her to concede to States Rights at the first sign of trouble will dog her. it only took one set of S Court Judges to take States rights away and only one more to give it back. Will her stance, dog her in the future?

Well, the term "non sequitur" certainly comes to mind.

Most states, and all Canadian provinces, require only that an applicant for a DL reside within the jurisdiction.

Driving licences have got nothing to do with immigration status, and everything to do with road safety. The point of the government issuing a driving licence is to ensure that everyone behind the wheel of a car has a certain demonstrated competence to be there.

If there is a connection between driving licences and abortion, I don't see it. Each state has jurisdiction over licencing of drivers, but must subject itself to federal law where federal law is applicable--such as abortion.

That sort of thing already got decided by people a lot smarter than I am--at Appomattox. Unless the South rises again, the federal government will retain control over things that are and should be under federal jurisdiction.

How exactly do you get abortion out of driver's licenses? There are many important federal level issues that need to be addressed, yet there seems alwys to be a flury of state jurisdiction issues that have little to do with the office of the President.

No, Roe v. Wade stopped abortion from being a state rights issue and made it a federal issue. To make it a state rights issue would mean reversing Roe v. Wade. We had a 6 years of Conservative rule and it didn't happen. It's not going to happen.
