They have to pay taxes now. They started paying taxes in 1993;before then, the family, except for Charles, Prince of Wales who voluntarily paid taxes, lived tax-free.The Diana-Fergie debacles cast a critical eye on the Royal Family;the failures of the two marriages, and Diana's revelations about her sham marriage caused the public to cast a critical eye on the Royal Family.Britain was debt-ridden at the time, and the government felt that it was high time to cut back on the cost of the monarchy. Royals receiving an allowance from The Civil List was cut down, and taxes were to be paid by all,not just Charles.
Now, only The Queen and Prince Philip receive monies from The Civil List, she pays for the rest of the family except for Charles who runs the Duchy of Cornwall,or the Royals have paying jobs and everyone pays taxes.

They pay taxes and a lot of tax comes from money raised on charging entrance fees for Royal properties. They pay in more then they take out now, now that the Queen took so many Royals off the Civil List

The Queen agreed to pay taxes on income and capital gains from 1993 and ontop of that the rest of the family members also had to pay inheritance taxes. When Diana died a decade ago, she left an estate of 21 million however, more than 8 million was paid in inheritance tax, leaving 12,966,022. It was split equally between William and younger brother Prince Harry, leaving them around 6.5 million each.

They pay taxes on personal items and properties, they do not on State owned items and properties. The Queen does pay Income tax on her personal fortune (although she does it voluntarily). All commercial enterprises owned by the Royals are taxed as normal.

Yep, apparently they do! It was passed a few years ago. They have to pay taxes on certain items that are for personal use and also personally owned properties.
