I've read about this volcanic eruption before in social studies books during class, but this was about two years ago. I know it was somewhere not in the united states, and that it was a very, very, very long time ago.
It destroyed two large places -i think-, but I remember that most of the people were killed when the ash hardened their lungs or something?

I'm almost 100% sure the place where it erupted started with a P.

I'm sorry for the lack of information, but if you know anything, please help. :)

It sounds vastly like the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius which completely encased the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum in ash. One very important but often overlooked historical fact, is that when excavated, there were molds of the people who died in the eruption. The Romans used to cremate their dead. This is the first actual accounting of Roman people and their sizes for the Roman age.

I think it might be Mount Vesuvius, and the towns it destroyed were Pompei and Herculaneum.

This is located on the Bay of Naples in southern Italy.

I am attaching a link that discusses the eruption of 79 AD when this happened.

It has erupted since, of course, as it is still an active volcano. Once, during WWII, it erupted while Allied troops were camped nearby.
