Mercury's orbit is shorter because it is closer to the sun. A day would past faster than here on Earth so a year would also be shorter

it takes 365 for the earth to revolve around the sun and we call that a year. because mercury isnt the same distance from the sun that the earth is, the amount of time it takes for mercury to revolve around the sun (a year)is different from our year.

Mercury (IPA: /ËmÉkjÊri/) is the innermost and smallest planet in the solar system, orbiting the Sun once every 88 days. It ranges in brightness from about â2.0 to 5.5 in apparent magnitude, but is not easily seen as its greatest angular separation from the Sun (greatest elongation) is only 28.3°. It can only be seen in morning or evening twilight.
