There are a combination of things.Arson(such as the 10 year old that set a fire) and accidental arson(a careless smoker flipping a butt out the window).
But withe winds this year and the dryness the weather played a big factor(lightening spontanious combustion)
and then in the man made catagory sparks fron overstressed brakes on cars-trucks -trains.
So it is hard to pin point one cause.

Looks like one of the fires in the L.A. area was started by a ten year old brat, according to the news.

by the southorn winds that were supposed to come out by rain but did not and gathered in the air acting as matches.
