There are so many events, it's hard to pick one. What interests you? There is the Scopes Monkey Trial, where the teaching of evolution was put on trial. There was lots of controversy around the Mexican-American war, with many people (including Abraham Lincoln) against the war. The bonus marchers in Washington DC is another topic. During the depression, a group of WW1 veterans marched on the capitol, demanding they receive bonuses they had been promised early. Upton Sinclair wrote a book called "The Jungle" which looked at the horrific conditions in the Chicago Stockyards, and led the way to reforms on health and sanitation. Those are a few topics.

Have you considered Television?

Syndney Moseley entered this in his diary, 1 August 1928:

"Television! Anxious to see what it is all about...He invited me to go along to Long Acre where the new invention is installed. Now that's something! Television!"

Others in Moseley's diary connected to the new invention of Television: John Logie Baird, Captain Oliver George Hutchinson.

"The country's only licensed broadcaster, the BBC, was unwilling to support Baird's technology, believing that mechanical television was too limited. Pressured by a parliamentary committee, the government-owned corporation finally agreed to a limited broadcast schedule, beginning 20 September 1929. Baird was charged a fee for the use of the BBC transmitters."
