I went the the OBGYN yesterday and I am 14 wks pregnant. When they tried to hear the heartbeat using the dopler all they got was mine... They said my heartbeat was right beside the babys so they couldn't hear the babys... They did ultrasound and we seen the heart beating and the baby was moving and growing well... But since they did the external ultrasound I couldn't hear the heartbeat.... The doctor said that everything was fine and that sometimes they just can't pick up the babys heartbeat on the dopler.... The nurse said that 14wks is an "ify" age to hear the heartbeat on the dopler.... I trust my doctor and am not real worried I just was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.... I thought that maybe they couldn't hear it cause I am "chubby" (thats putting it nicely). I am 30-40lbs overweight.... Could this be it? Thanks SO much.... Oh yeah this is my first "bundle of joy".
P.S. Please NO scary stories! Thanks.....

Oh yeah that is very normal, they couldn't pick my baby's hb with a Doppler until I was about 16wks. they always had to give me an ultrasound to see it, so yeah it's okay, as long as that heart is pumping and it's alive and growing a good rate, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. You just take care of yourself and that baby. It's probabl.y a girl! Lol, best wishes to you and just relax, it's hard to do for us first-timers

I just had a 14 week checkup, and we found the heartbeat...but it took about 5 minutes! My doctor told me that 14 weeks is a hard time to find the heartbeat because the baby is still small and the uterus has grown, so the baby has room to "hide" in there! :) If you saw the baby moving and his/her heart beating on the u/s... then everything is fine! Take care!

No dont worry everything is fine sometimes the doctors cant pick up the babys heartbeat i was 16 weeks before i heared my baby boys heartbeat and he was just fine when he was born and no i dont think it matters if you are over weight or not (LoL) because i was alittle overweight myself, So i wouldent worry you dont need it cause its not good for the baby or you so dont worry, Congrats on the baby and i hope everything goes well!

I agree with above. It's normal if your a bit chubby for it to be more difficult to hear. Try not to worry about it. Remember that you saw the heart beat on the ultrasound! That is wonderful. Congratulations and good luck!

dont worry! i couldnt hear mine until i was 5 months!!! they had to keep doing ultrasounds(talk about scary!) but everything was fine! as long as the doc says the baby is developing correctly you shouldnt worry, it just means you have a nice strong heartbeat! and being overweight can make a difference...

my doc couldn't pick it up at 11 weeks so i was sent immediately for an ultrasound, and we saw the heart beat and everything was fine. at my next appt. at 15 weeks, we heard it loud and clear. no worries! probably at your next appointment you'll be able to hear you baby! and yes, weight can be a factor. if you have a little extra in the middle it might take longer to hear.

I've been to the gyno twice now, and we haven't even attempted t hear the babies heart, although we have done the ultrasound both times. I am wondering if maybe at this early stage (13 weeks), sometimes it is hard to pick up the babie's heart and many mothers freak out, so he just showed me the heart beating... Dunno.....

You're overweight, its normal for it to take longer. I was super skinny, and still at 12 weeks they couldnt find my sons. It wasnt until about 16-18 weeks that they could find him without spending 20-30 minutes searching.
Its fine :)

That didn't happen to me, but if u saw him/her moving around on an ultrasound & he/she had a heart rate, then everything is ok. I know how it is to just freak out about everything. I'm also pregnant with my 1st. Good luck & congrats! =)
