If you plan on using the hard drive space. Some people install Lynux on the PS3 and turn it into a computer. But if you still can, get the 60GB version, because that version has EVERY feature. The 80GB and 40GB versions are limited in the amount of features they have. The 80 version can play a limited amount of PS1 and PS2 games. The 40 version does not play any old generation games and only has two USB ports. The 60, which plays a large majority of older generation games. The 60 is the best man, if you can get it and just upgrade the memory (if you need to).

As you probably already know, the 40GB PS3 isn't backward compatible, has just 2 less USB slots, and doesn't have the Digital Camera flash card slots. I think that you should get the 80GB PS3 or 60GB PS3 just because they have have everything that you will ever need in a gaming system.
The 60GB PS3 and 80GB PS3 cost the same, but the 60GB PS3 is worth the price even though it doesn't come with a free game because the 60GB PS3 can play nearly every single PS1 and PS2 game because it has the Emotion Engine chip inside it.
The 80GB PS3 doesn't have the Emotion Engine chip inside it, instead it uses software to be backward compatible and can't play as many PS1 and PS2 games, but it still can play a lot of them though.
The 60GB or 80GB PS3 is the ultimate gaming machine.

The difference between the 40gb and the 80gb PS3, besides the memory, is that the 40gb no longer plays PS2 games. The 80gb version is still backwards compatible with PS2 games. So, if you plan on downloading lots of stuff and want the capability of playing PS2 and PS3 games, then go for the larger hard drive.

what seems to be a little known fact is that sony supports installing linux as a second OS on a PS3. (Which basically allows you to use your PS3 as a computer and do net surfing, downloading music games and videos, and all sorts of stuff) So if you plan on doing that, definitely go for the bigger hard drive.

depends if you have a PS2 and like to play them still I'd go with the 60GB if not go for the 80GB with motorstorm and both cost $500 but the 80GB isn't fully backward compatible
hope this helps :)

80GB is the largest I believe? Thats quite a bit of storage, if I had the money, I'd buy it.

I went with the larger one when i bought one about 5 months ago. i can honestly say i wasted $100. i havent put music or photos on it and have used hardly any memory space. it might be impossible to run out. i'd save the money and buy the smaller memory. you wont run out.

if you think you'll seriously use all the memory, be my guest and go for it, if you need more, dont be clingy, and you shouldnt fill it up to begin with unless you pretty much have no life
