Hockey is my favorite sport and it seems that the only way to keep track of it is online. It's barely in the papers and I don't even hear about it being on TV til the season is almost over. Why is that?

Even in Canada, the NHL is rarely shown on basic TV channels.

The only 'over the air' games are Saturday evenings on Hockey Night in Canada (CBC)

All 30 teams have their own television packages usually associated with a cable sports network,

Local network affiliates in the US haven't shown 'local' sports of any professional type for years. The NBA, MLB, and NHL have been available on cable for years, and the NFL forbids teams from negotiating individual TV deals.

As for being online...................I haven't bought a physical newspaper sinve before Y2K....everything I need to know I get online.

Save the trees...read your local paper at their website!

Versus is the network that has Hockey in the US. Unfortunately like someone else mentioned, they only show games on Monday and Tuesday. In Ohio we can get the Jackets on Fox Sports Network. The only other way to get more games is to buy the Center Ice Package from your local cable system. I think the reason that ESPN doesn't have much coverage is because they are still ticked that they couldn't lowball the league when the TV contract was up.

because College football, NFL, NBA, and MLB are the most favorite in the US. I live in MA, and i get the paper with NHL standings and stats on the bruins etc. Ill give it a few mores easons before NHL grows and will be recognized on ESPN and other major networks.

Well, it really doesn't get on basic TV till the end of the year and in the playoffs because thats when NBC begins their coverage of the NHL. Versus, which is currently on basic cable, shows games on Monday and Tuesday year round.

ESPN doesn't give hockey much credit except for a couple minutes on SportsCenter. Why? I do not know.

If you live in Detroit or along the U.S.-Canadian border, you can watch games on CBC. Also later in the season they will show a game on NBC in the afternoon during the weekend.
