I dont see how they can make money from a part time practice unless they work from home because if they have an office the rent must be expensive

It's not that common but some psychologists do work from their home. Most in private practise work in an office. It provides some separation between work and home life. As well, you may not really want all of your patients to know where you live. Psychologists who have part-time practises are more likely to share office space. They may be part of a group which shares expenses or they may rent out another professional's office space and just pay for the hours they use the space. So the expenses don't have to be prohibitive.

Sure, quite common. Understandably, this is more common in areas where rent is expensive or office space in short supply. And some psychologists prefer not to work full-time, so this helps keep the expenses down.

Yes many psychologists and therapist have a home office. Some feel it's more comfortable and more easily accessible. Why rent an office if there is the capability and comfort level of working from home?

Sure... move away from the home office and you may be more marginalised and therefore earn less.
But I think it is a preference thing. Some people just don't have the capacity to work alone like that, though don't expect any Psychologist to admit it...lol!
