The article you cite says that there are less homeless vets now than there were 20 years ago. No where in the article does it say anything about cuts in funding. The premise of your question is, therefore, inaccurate.

"2005 data estimated that 194,254 homeless people out of 744,313 on any given night were veterans.

In comparison, the VA says that 20 years ago, the estimated number of veterans who were homeless on any given night was 250,000."

"It (the VA) spends about $265 million annually on homeless-specific programs and about $1.5 billion for all health care costs for homeless veterans.

"Because of these types of programs and because two years of free medical care is being offered to all Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, Dougherty said they hope many veterans from recent wars who are in need can be identified early."

"Following those recommendations would cost billions of dollars, but there is some movement in Congress to increase the amount of money dedicated to homeless veterans programs."

ADDITION:
Whitestar, the only reason that military benefit bills have been vetoed is the dems have tied pork spending to them KNOWING that Bush will veto it. What does that tell you about them? It tells me that they want an issue to ***** about and don't want to solve the problem. Military spending bills should contain MILITARY spending ONLY. Benefit bills should contain BENEFIT spending ONLY etc.

I read the article and didn't see where the Republicans are cutting benefits to veterans. I know that Democrats control both houses - if there are to be any cuts, they would be to blame. Also, your boy Clinton cut the benefits to the Vets, remember.

Hmmm, explain to me when the Veterans Administration budget was cut ??

Since it has went from 47 billion in 2001

To 88 billion in 2007.

Thats a 87% increase in 6 years.

You must use the new fuzzy math or something.

You mean why does congress cut benefits. They pass the bills and control the money.

After doing 20 years, I could have done what countless veterans do. They use the system to get free money, which leaves less money for those who are really disabled as a result of injuries they got while serving. Even though I could have received at least 40 or 50% service disability, I never went to the VA to apply for it.

Having said that, I listened to my mother and applied myself towards getting a good education.

I don't have to rely on the government to give me anything.

Clinton cut funding for the VA during his term. And the article also states there has always been the problem of homeless vets.

Also the Dems control both houses any bill that they would send to improve benefits for the vets would never get a veto. But instead they are trying to impeach.

Well since they found ways to tuck tail and avoid war they probably think only stupid people are in Iraq. They just don't understand the privlidge of wondering if you are going to see a full day. The beauty of having bullets wizzing past you. Since these same people showed how Chicken they are in the face of actually going to war, they will never know the glory of going to war.

www.scap. I haven't heard of impeachment in the House. Also military spending bills have been vetoed.
