Windows media player incorporates 'DRM' (Digital Rights Management == 'copy protection') ...

Most likely it is 'phoning home' to see if you have the 'rights' to play whatever music you have chosen .. (or to report your large collection of pirated mp3's)

If you wish to keep using Windows media player, I suggest you Install Zone Alarm .. when it comes up with the "Warning, Windows Media Player is trying to connect to the Internet" box, click on 'deny' (and 'remember this setting')

Better (of course) is to rip out all DRM infected s/w and install Open Source equivalents.

PS. NEVER install ANYTHING from SONY = they are NOT to be trusted (look up 'Sony Root Kit') .. of course we expect Sony software to be riddled with DRM .. but I have even heard stories of people using Sony DVD Burners who have discovered that the DRIVE has added Copy Protection to their OWN home videos ..

Yeah that happened for a while with one of my browsers in fact.

It's a piece of spyware sitting on your program I believe, or a DLL file interference.

MediaPlex is an advertising network, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing something.

I'd suggest, contact MediaPlex and see what they say, because it's not legal for companies to be invading your computer for information, if they are.

You got a serious virus. No tabs should open unless you open them. Looks like someone infected your computer and is controlling it without you knowing. They probably also looked at any passwords and personal info you have saved on your comp.
