+ Bible says call no man father +

Read more of the Bible:

Matthew 23:6-9 reads, "They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven."

Are we also not to call anyone "teacher" or "doctor" which is how "rabbi' would translate? I think not.

This is call for humility for those in leadership roles. Not to be taken literally.

We are not to deny our male parent and cut the Commandment to honor our father and mother in half.

Some leaders in any church may fall into the same folly of a lack of humility as the pharisees of Jesus' day.

The Apostle Paul writes:

I am writing you this not to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. Even if you should have countless guides to Christ, yet you do not have many fathers, for I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. (1 Corinthians 4:14-15)

And:

As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children, exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)

And:

I urge you on behalf of my child Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment, who was once useless to you but is now useful to (both) you and me. (Philemon 10-11)

And finally, Peter calls himself the "father" of Mark:

The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son. (1 Peter 5:13)

+ Bible says dont worship idols +

Catholic worship only God, the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Do you have pictures of your loved ones? Have you ever looked at the picture of someone while talking on the phone to them?

Statues and pictures of people we love are not idols.

Statues and paintings of Jesus and the saints are just like pictures of the people we love and respect.

The King James Version of the Bible states in Exodus 20:4: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"

Why were the Jews commanded not to make graven images? Graven images were the standard method of pagan worship. They were representations of false gods.

This is a very clear command.

However God commanded the Jews in Exodus 25:18 and 1 Chronicles 28:18–19, "And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them"

And in 1 Kings chapter 7 Solomon made bulls and other images out of precious metals.

It seems obvious that the Jews did not worship the cherubims and Solomon did not worship the bulls he had made. These images did not violate the command of God. Therefore, an image not made for worship is acceptable.

In Numbers 21:8-9, "And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if anyone who has been bitten looks at it, he will recover." Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered."

And in John 3:14-15, Jesus says in correlation, "And just as Moses lifted up the [image of a] serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."

How can a statue of our Lord Jesus Christ dead on the cross be considered an idol to a false god? A crucifix is the message of the Gospel without words held up for all to see, a visual reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus, no different from a painting, a play, or a movie.

How can a nativity set set up in your house to constantly remind you and teach your children of God's love for use be idolotry?

+ Bible says only Jesus can forgive sins +

Read more of the Bible.

Jesus said, "I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Luke 20:22-23)

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ.

Oral confessing of sins is recommended over and over in both the Old and New Testaments:
+ James 5:16
+ Acts 19:18
+ Matthew 3:5-6
+ Mark 1:5
+ 1 Timothy 6:12
+ 1 John 1:9
+ Numbers 5:6-7
+ Nehemiah 9:2
+ Sirach 4:26

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a priest ordained in the name of Jesus Christ not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

Remember all sacraments are encounters with God. This sacrament is a healing encounter between God and the penitent.

+ Bible says to keep Holy the sabbath +

Read more of the Bible.

For Christians the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the first day of the week (Sunday) replaces the Sabbath as the day of ceremonial observance of the Commandment to keep the Lord's Day holy.

Here is the link: http://www.nccbuscc.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt1art3.htm

The Catholic Church follows the teaching and practice of the Apostles. In the 20th chapter of the Act of the Apostles, the church in Troas gathered on the first day of the week, Sunday.

The first Christians were Jews. They went to temple or synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday) with fellow Jews.

Then they gathered on the first day of the week, the day on which Jesus rose from the dead (Sunday), with fellow Christians to tell stories of Jesus and share Eucharist. See Acts 20:7.

Later Gentiles joined Christianity. The Apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, decided that the Gentiles did not have to covert to Judaism. Therefore, they only attended on Sundays and did not have to abide by Jewish dietary laws.

This biblical practice inspired by the Holy Spirit has been followed ever since.

+ With love in Christ.

These are common misperceptions:
(1) The Epistles are full of references to using the term "Father" outside of a biological context, despite Jesus' imploring in the Gospels (Abraham is called 'father', Paul says he is a 'father' to Timothy, etc.). Jesus' admonition was against letting any man be put in the place of the Lord, and when Catholics call a priest "Father" they are not mistaking him for the Lord. Note also that it is common to refer to one another as "brother" and "sister" which follows the "Father" analogy closely.

(2) There is no part of Catholic doctrine that allows the worship of objects or anything created. The Creator alone deserves worship. Some ethnic traditions have gotten a little carried away (ie, Mexicans have brought a devotional focus on Santa Muerte - Saint Death - to Chicago), and these are generally corrected. The presence of a decorative statue in a church does not imply worship of that statue.

(3) The priests do not forgive sins of their own power, but of the Lord's. They effectively act as his representatives and ensure the validity of the confession. This follows from Jesus' command "I give you the power to loose and to bind; what is loosed on Earth will be loosed in Heaven. What is bound on Earth will be held bound in Heaven."

(4) Does it matter which day is the Sabbath, so long as we set aside a day for the Lord?

you are confusing doctrine with interpretation. All christian based faiths have different interpretations of the bible.

Catholicism is based off the teachings of Peter and Paul, two of Jesus' closest students and followers. The doctrines are their interpretations of what Jesus had taught them, and the later interpretation of Peter and Paul's teachings.

The ten commandments say "Do not worship FALSE idols" since saints and the symbolism in Catholicism is based on the faith they are not false.

according to catholic dogma a priest is the Representative of god and he is not so much forgiving sin as he is offering you a way to repent, ultimately you save your self, he does not save you.

Going to church on Sunday (although the original Sabbath was Saturday) is part of keeping the day holy. and the interpretation from the ten commandments is "REMEMBER the Sabbath to keep it holy". No where does it say you can not work on the Sabbath.

As for calling men father, again it goes to the priest being the proxy for god on earth.

Can I please remind some of the above that St Paul never actually met the 'physical' Jesus.

Catholic dogma is a cultural interpretation of Holy Scripture, as are the dogmas of all the denominations of all the world's religions.

Good question though.

I would believe the Bible, because look at all that has been going on with People who profess to Love the lord God, and they sin.

Catholics call their spiritual leaders 'Father' following Paul's example: "I became your father in Jesus Christ through the gospel" (1 Cor. 4:15).

No Catholic 'worships' any idol.

The Bible itself tells us to hold fast to tradition, whether it comes to us in written or oral form (2 Thess. 2:15; 1 Cor. 11:2).
