It's simple. Many people are made up of different cultural backgrounds; for example, my ancestors were German, Irish, English, French, and Polish.
Just tell them that just because some of your ancestors were African doesn't mean that they all were, and whoever doesn't understand that is obviously pretty ignorant. If they just don't get it, I would just drop it. No use causing a big issue with some ignorant people. =)

Yes if you go to Dublin you will find that there are black people in Ireland. There has been black people in Ireland since the late 1880's and some are recent immigrants from Africa.
There's a good singer her name is Laura Izibor she's black Irish. Lucia Evans is an other singer whose black Irish.
Being Irish is a nationality not a race. The UK has a large black population, so these people don't know what they are talking about.
You probably are a mixture of different backgrounds and that's what most people are today. A mixture of different things. You dont' have to prove anything to people, just be happy with who you are.

If you do your research you can let them know there are black Irish. There's not that many but there are black Irish. I saw a girl around 17-18 from Phila on TV last year and she had just come back from Ireland meeting her family and yes, she was black also.

Irish is not a race.It is a nationality. A nationality is not specific to a race. A Latino man could be Irish as well as a black man. In order for you to be Irish, you or your ancestors would have to had come from Ireland. I would call your class mates ignorant but they are young and dont know any better. Tell them to pick up a book and read.

If your grandparents from way back were Irish and you're mostly black the Irish isn't gonna show, but you still have Irish in you.
Maybe get a family tree or something that shows it. There's lots of people who have a little bit of something else in them and it doesn't really show.

As someone previously said, Irish is a nationality, not a race. Althogh the term is commonly misused, it really shouldn't. Take for example a Latino. Being Latino means that you or your parents are originally from Latin America. However, if you are familiar with Latinos, you will notice that Latinos vary in race from white to black to mestizos to indeginious. However, they are all Latino no matter their race or history.

You want proof? OK. Wow. Whoever doesn't believe you is STUPID!
Example one:
Irish mom + black dad
=
dark son who is Irish
Example two:
Irish grandpa + Black grandpa
=
Dark daughter w/ irish
Dark daughter/mom w/ Irish + Black dad
=
Black son w/ a LITTLE Irish.
Edit:
There are a ton of possibilites even past the granparents. Mauby you could have even had an Irish GREAT-GREAT-GREAT grandfather
See, there are a TON of possibilities!

The only proof you need is if you are Irish (you're a citizen) or one of your ancestors is/were. Skin color makes no difference.
Edit: Why did I write descendents first?
