Superantispyware is almost without question the best on-demand antispy scanner; and for an on-demand general malware scanner, A-Squared can't be beat. These two are far better than Spybot and Ad-Aware.

For *real-time* antimalware protection, Comodo's BOClean is very good: http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html

Don't get me wrong, there are a few good free anti spyware programs available. However, they are not on par with commercial programs, such as: Spyware Sweeper and Spyware Doctor. Both PC World Magazine and PC Magazine periodically review both free and commercial anti spyware programs. Without fail, the commercial programs always outperforms the free programs. Read PC World's review at http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,126890/article.html
However, if you are tight on money and rather stick with free programs, AVG and Ad Aware programs are fine. In addition, you can try Spybot Search & Destroy, Windows Defender and Spyware Terminator. You can find all 3 programs at www.filehippo.com. My personal favorites amongst the free programs are Spybot and Ad Aware. The makers of the software constantly provides updates for the latest threats. Spybot, but not Ad Aware, provides real time protection.

Yes as the above mentioned, I truely agree due to the circumstances of :
Limited scanning
Scan but don't remove
Remove only 1 part like malware/spyware/adware
Lifetime use but limited features
Not many sectors or threats known - No Immunizer Like
S & D
And it can be a spyware itself.
Use Webroot Sweeper plus FireThreat or something on PC tools, it is proven effective and data is from toptenreviews.com, it gives detailed anaylsis- on software
Commodo BOclean is good but can give fake warnings like the MMORPG i just installed.
Real time protection can be from toolbars, Enterprise versions of anti-viruses, anti-spywares and internet filters.
More research , More websites visited, More advisement, More popularity, Competitive Costs, Protection Against all of what should be protected is very limited in
Windows Defender [Mediocore, sorry Microsoft, but your coding and how many websites/downloads you visited was very limited]
Windows Live Care Thing
SuperAntiSpyware [Features are not as good as you think]
S & D Spybot [Recommanded but, threats go undetected]
Spyware Terminator 2 [Sorry..it's uncomparable]
and its Siteadvisor
Ad-Aware 2007 (48.2% go undetected of threats)
AVG Anti-Spyware Pro and Normal [Good, however lacks potential]
Spyware Blaster [It's too much free and has limited database]

Ad-aware and spybot are really god programs.
Ad-aware usually only finds the bigger things and spybot finds all the other little things.
AVG is a virus scanner.
It is pretty good for a free one but there are better ones.
This includes:
Norton
McAfee

I use both ad-aware and spybot search and destroy.
They find different things, so I think using more than one can't hurt.

SpyBot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
Both are excellent programs and do scan for/remove different types of spyware and other security risks. Enjoy!
