In early spring is best for setting bare-root grapevines. That's when established grapevines sprout naturally. If you set the plants too early, the cold can kill baby shoots. Also, it's growing cycle will start out confused and it will take longer for the plant to mature enough to fruit.

You can also just stick a cane from an established plant into the ground and it will grow. But, it will take a longer time to mature to the point where it will fruit than if you plant a bareroot vine.
