Do a free scan at Crucial - it will tell you all you need to know about your RAM configuration.

There should be nothing wrong with this configuration....If and only IF the motherboard can handle it. You should go to the manufacturers web site and check the exact speciffications for your MB. Sometimes your MB can only handle a certain amount of RAM in each slot. Modern MBs can usually handle different sized sticks in each slot, but again it depends on the MB. Please save you rmoney and check the allowable configuration before you plunk down your cash.

And U heard right......Depending on your OS that is...

See Vista 64 (and only Vista 64 not 32) can support 4gb itself,,,,,but
XP (any vesion) can only support 3gb of system memory...

The standard memory is called dual channel mode: and is in almost any newer computer,,,and is extremly fast.....
If you add an odd pair to the mode,,,things will slow down allot...

That is why most people have the 2gb standard right now,,,and memory is really cheap to upgrade to...

Easy and safe.

Memory should always be matched in RAM Slots.

Complete match, not just total RAM

If your system can handle it, the bigger stick has to be in the number 1 slot or it'll be screwed

Actually XP can use up to 4 gigs of RAM.
And you are right.
You cannot expect everything to run as well as it could.
