was a high bidder on ebay for a laptop. my winning bid was $615 and the laptop that would cost about $950 from Dell (if it were new). I am worried about it being a refurbished laptop, however. The seller says that the warranty is 1 year and in perfect condition.the problem is that I won it on ebay but i didnt realize it was a refurb. I can probably buy my way out of the deal for $25. Should i just get the laptop or try to buy my way out?

Refurbished means that it was returned with problems that may or may not be fixed. It's not a good bet.

You should be. I usually have a rule that states you shouldn't buy a refurbished item unless you are getting it for about half its retail value. I was like you but after alot of research I had decided to purchase a brand new system. Notebooks are so cheap nowadays and you get a warranty. Let someone else purchase that computer. While their may be nothing wrong with that computer it's value isn't the same as a brand new computer from Dell.

P.S. Although I'm a big fan of Dell I recommend that you shop around for the best deal.

getting refurb laptops aren't bad from Dell but the only downside is that one year warranty. If you have an option to extend that then I would get it but if not then I would say no because you need a warranty on a computer at least three years. But if you are able to save a little longer then I recommended getting a new one. And if you don't necessarily need/want a Dell then shop around and get another brand.

My experience with a refurb was horrible. Dell recalled a jack on the back of my brand new notebook and when I sent it to them to fix, they sent it back unfixed. This went on for a while until they finally sent me a refurb for "all of my trouble." Five months later, the motherboard fried and now it is dead. I would just suck up the $25 and buy a brand new notebook. It's not worth the trouble and you don't know what you're getting into.
