Hi, me and my dad are about to buy a 1999 Suburban, the thing is that the suburban has 126,500 miles on it. We already checked it out and no smoke comes out of the exhaust, so the engine seams to be good. However I'd like to know how long do these engines last. Does anyone know?

Partly depends on the care taken to the engine, how it was driven, and a bit of luck. A good 350, not driven hard, and properly maintained can last 300,000 miles. As with all used vehicle purchases, you may get something that sounds right and runs good one day, and a week later the engine goes poof. With the price of fuel nowadays climbing, are you sure about buying a Suburban? It will be expensive to keep fueled up, a neighbor here (fuel currently costing 3.19/gallon for plain unleaded) is paying over 100/week to keep his fueled.
Good luck.

I had a 1972 Impala with a 350. I got over 300,000 miles before it died. I changed oil and filter every 3,000 miles. It might have made more miles had it not over heated badly at around 250,000 miles. I dont know how it ran so long. It was a short block with one year 12,000 mile warrenty. When I installed this engine, I had the heads re-worked. I ran 30 W Pennzoil. Have never heard a bad report on a 350 engine, thay have a long record of lasting.
