You have to divide 7/8 by 3/16 which is done by flipping the 3/16 to 16/3 and multiplying.
7/8 times 16/3 = cancel the 16 and 8 to 2 and 1 so
7/1 times 2/3 = 14/3 or 4 2/3
So 4 full pieces and 2/3 of a piece left over

its very simple once you get the hang of it.
you are dividing 7/8 by 3/16, all you need to do is find the recipicle of 3/16 wich is 16/3(you just have to swich the numbers around).
Now you multiply 7/8 by 16/3 to get 112/24. Now divide 24 into 112 =4 16/24
simplify:4 16/24=4 2/3
answer:4 2/3 of a yard

You are given 2 fractional amounts: 7/8 & 3/16.
You need to divide one into the other: 7/8 by 3/16.
That's the same as inverting & multiplying: 7/8*16/3
The 8 & 16 cancel, leaving: 7*2/3
Which works out to: 14/3 or 4 2/3, so the answer is 4.
Looking at it another way, multiply 7/8 by 2: 14/16
Now divide 3 into 14 goes 4 times, with 2 over.

have you tried dividing it?
(7/8) / (3/16)
cross multiplying it
= 112/24
further simplifying
= 56/12
=28/6
=14/3
=4 and 2/3
there you can have 4 and 2/3 pieces of cloth measuring 3/16 of a yard, from a 7/8 yard piece of cloth..

7/8=14/16
14/16- 3/16=11/16- 3/16=8/16- 3/16=5/16- 3/16=2/16- 3/16=0
count how many times you subtracted 3/16 and it was four and 2/3

you have to make the two denominaters equal, so 3/16 would become 1.5/8ths. 1.5 +1.5+1.5+1.5=6. u need 1 more, which is 2/3 of 1.5.
So, 4 and 2/3
