Actually the "Rhythm Method" or Withdrawal method is NOT a good form of protection due to the precum that the penis still leaks out. Precum still has sperm in it, which can end up in a pregnancy.
Personally I don't use any form of birth control myself. my fiance and i use condoms at times and then others nothing. You could chart your periods, some women can take different types of birth control, it just really depends on the person and the contraception.
if you don't mind doing a little more reading and searching, here are a few links that may be helpful.

http://www.peacehealth.org/kbase/topic/special/hw237864/sec4.htm (this one goes into description of the methods. )
http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/birthcontrol.html (same with this)
Good luck!

On the male side... a condom but, most people do not know that you can put on a male condom “inside out.” Also, not everyone knows that you need to leave a “reservoir” or space at the tip of the condom for the sperm and fluid when a man ejaculates, or has an orgasm.
On the female side... there are birth control pills, patches, shots or UDI ( a UDI is a small plastic T- shaped device that is placed inside the uterus by a doctor). There are also female condoms, diaphragms, sponges, NuvaRing (NuvaRing is a ring that releases the hormones progestin and estrogen. You squeeze the ring between your thumb and index finger and insert it into your vagina). And lastly plan B... the abortion pill.
It would be safest to use multiple types of birth control when engaging in safe sex, like a male condom and a female on birth control. The safer you are the less likely you are to get pregnant. Just remember safe sex practice is only about 99.7% effective.
Also for the man who said withdrawal... When you use withdrawal, you can also be at risk getting pregnant BEFORE the man pulls out. When a man’s penis first becomes erect, there can be fluid called pre-ejaculate fluid on the tip of the penis that has sperm in it. This sperm can get a woman pregnant. Withdrawal also does not protect you from STDs or HIV.

ok this is what my doc told me
pill - good for short term, is the most flexible type of contraceptive, use only if u are an anal personality
depo shot - can be used for very long term, very inflexible as takes a while for body to get back to normal, also if you react badly you have to ride it out till it wears off. kind of flexible
implant - very inflexible *but* can be removed if needed. longest term as lasts 2-3 years
hope this helps a bit. oh and the implant cant be done by any doctor they have to specialize in putting it in and taking it out, it is a minor operation. though if you dont like needles you may choose that over the shot.
i hate needles ans the depo shot doesnt bother me at all
EDIT : safe sex practice (ie the ones above are actually 99.9% effective since in 1000 women only 100 will become pregnant) if 100 women didnt use contraceptives of any kind then 90 would become pregnant. all this is within a year

I personaly have the implant. I dont get periods on it and no symptoms have come along with it either..but thats just me, it varies from woman to woman. Lasts for 3 years and its not painful to get in or out. But i always double up on condoms, as its not only pregnancy youve got to worry about nowadays!!!

Not having sex would be the ultimate!! But for me it's the injection, because my memory is terrible - though if I was having sex with someone that wasn't my partner I'd always use a condom too. However, me and my partner know we don't need to :-)

Rythm method. Yank it out before you go off and it's also fun to let it rip on her.
