I know it's not the same, but when I want a countdown to certain events, I use Excel and put the file on my task bar so I can quickly open it daily. If interested, put 25/12/2007 in cell A1. Today's date in cell B1 (by either using Ctrl;, or the formula =today() or =now().
Then in cellC2 the formula =A1-B1 to give you the number of days left.
