Interesting question because as far as I know a parabolic antenna (dish) on top a vessel steaming from the east (Japan, etc) to the west (US-Pacific coast) will not be able to receive transmissions the more it gets far from the eastern satellite. It will loose signal because of the circunference of earth which makes the vessel to stay away of coverage area of that satellite. Now if the vessel shifts from the eastern satellite to the western then OK - basically.
