One can find rude persons in all categories on yahooanswers. Certainly, one has no purpose in bringing up religion in the Astronomy section just as one would not pose an astronomical question under the Religion section. It is not rudeness so much as common courtesy to post questions in the proper section. I often get irritated when people post UFO and alien questions here when they should be posted in the Alternative category. Maybe you caught Science guy on a bad day- we all have them.

there is a difference between a belief and an opinion
In my experience, few scientists would get angry at someone saying "I believe in God." In fact, many scientists believe in God.
But scientists get frustrated when someone tries to use religious belief to trump scientific arguments, as in "I don't believe in dinasaur fossils because I believe in God."
And part of that frustration stems from the fact that these attitudes have been translated into laws and public school policies about teaching science. In other words, it becomes "I will make sure all the children in this school district are taught not to believe in dinasaur fossils, because I believe in God."
So the next time you see a "science type' over-reacting, try to understand that there's a context for that :)

Have you ever visited a foreign country with a completely different culture? It can be hard to communicate.
Science culture is a distinct culture. You can't just walk in and pretend you speak the language. :) Scientific culture places a far greater value on evidence than most people are accustomed to.
For example, "sharing beliefs" without evidence is just seen as gauche. (in most contexts) If you try to sit down with a bunch of scientists and "share" your divine revelations, they'll probably seem really uncomfortable.
The reason is that in scientific culture, if you can't provide evidence to support your statements, you don't make those statements. In fact, it's rude to make those statements because you're essentially saying "It's not my responsibility to prove it! You do it!" You're making work for other people.
And we really have enough research to do already.

I think most of the rude people are young and immature and trying to assert their own independent judgement against what they perceive to be foolish notions. Sometimes they are correct; sometimes they are not, but their attitude gets in the way so much that noone bothers to read what they have to say. I must add that some of the rudest folks I have seen in this arena are those who claim absolute knowledge based on their own belief system. They make demands based on an appalling lack of understanding of anything that they are talking about. This represents a direct challenge to anyone who is a scientist, since we are trained (born?) to consider that sort of thinking to be wrong and dangerous. We are not against religion - just against those who use it as a club. A similar position on the religious side is generally appreciated by the wise.

That's because science is about what you can prove and what evidence you have. Take a science class - you'll quickly learn that your beliefs and opinions have no use whatsoever if they aren't backed up by evidence.
If you want to talk about god, go the religion section. If you want to talk about science, stick to stuff that you can provide evidence for. That's the whole point.

go away them on my own and that they won't shield themselves or respond! Why so blind to what motives the backlash against christianity? all the different religions and atheists stay in peace and are basically attacked with the aid of undesirable christians which motives all sturdy christians to melancholy on the wear and tear they do! Up till approximately 40 years lower back Christianity replaced into thriving and there replaced into no conflict with others yet in in simple terms those few short years the admired christians have become illiberal, hate crammed, bigoted and persecuting ensuing in a transforming into backlash against christianity and inflicting christianity to loose over ten p.c. in decrease than a decade with the loss accelerating! The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only difficulty that would end it somewhat is to desert the undesirable human thoughts, look for to rediscover the belief of a loving god and act like it!

Not ALL 'science people' are rude. SOME however consider beliefs without evidence or factual basis to be ill-considered and lacking in common sense and wisdom. They feel that they should be honest about this opinion, and they share it with you.
SOME of them do it in a very direct, terse style that could be interpreted as 'rude' by someone who is sensitive. Some others are simply rude and they're NOT 'science people'. Why are NON-science people so rude? See? Tough to answer.

I'm not. (See my answer to your last question)
Problem is, when you are young and into science, it takes all your mental capacity to absorb the facts, the maths and the physical implications. Only as you get older, and wiser, do you move on to consider the humanity of what you are doing. The really bright scientists like Hawking are all about people.
Just a theory
PS. I love the idea of "important research" on Y!A.

If we wanted to talk theology, religion and stuff, we would go to the religion section of yahoo answers.
I know I get a bit sick and tired of god questions turning up in Astronomy and Space.

Lol.
Think about it this way:
You spend years and years of your life proving that lets say.....Black is actually a color, regardless of what anybody says. And then some Uppity amateur insists that Black isn't a color because 'they just know it' or 'their art teacher said so'. I think thats how science people think.
By the way, those aren't my beliefs up there, I'm just trying to be empathetic.
