I have found it is easiest if you put yourself inside the shoes of someone who has had very different values and experiences different to you. It's like when the Europeans came to the Caribbean and brought horses the Indians there saw them as one object and drew them like one animal. They saw the same thing in a context based on their experiences and what they knew to be possible.
Thinking outside the box requires that you either add to or remove certain ideas you know as fact and go "what if?"

Don't let yourself get bogged down in details; step back into your mind so to see the big picture. Explore other perspectives besides those that are comfortable and those accepted by the majority. Question authority and truths established through tradition and dogma and always seek the truth as an individualized being. Apply abstract thought towards making logical conclusions. Fly high instead of remaining on the ground; go deep instead of living on the surface of life. Learn to be your Self.

To think out of the box is to expunge the conventional attitude of being strapped in a straitjacket of the logical world. There are other realms of reality to peer into, like the spirit world which has been regarded as mere fantasy and superstition. To close your mind on the unexplored just because they cannot be measured or verified by empirical evidence of science or logic is to be forever confined in that box. The only way out is a journey on your own free of charge: OPEN MINDEDNESS.

One way is to check the premise of what you learned by rote. Search for the question that comes before the question asked. We often get loaded questions to choose from. For example, if you were asked: Do you think the State government or the Federal government should pay for health care? The question before that should be "Do you think government should be involved at all in health care? Then answer it for yourself. Do individuals and doctors know more about your condition that a bureaucrat? If my doctor says I need a test but the government won't pay for it, saying it's not necessary, where would that leave you? So, bottom line, question the "given" part of the argument. If you followed it through to its logical conclusion, would it make sense? Always go back to the first question and check it to see if it's a loaded one.

You can't it's a gift. To quote my Sociology proff. "some people can think outside the box and some can't. The main problem is escaping one's socialization and jumping the rails, question the status quo and ask "why" about everything. Taking a lot of LSD helps but you have to have
a) something in there in the first place to come out and
b) the sort of mind that can handle it. I've seen too many people 'lose it' whilst out and about in the wide blue yonder.

Learn that you should not be too sure of anything, because trust me - you don't have the answers. Think for yourself, and go beyond whatever you were taught as a child or raised on - even when it come to your religion. Talk with different walks of life, and decide for yourself how you feel about them. Take classes in philosophy - I did, and that's a good beginning. Question things - question yourself and your own beliefs whether it's about men, gay people, abortion, abuse, death penalty, politics, religion.... Question what you have faith in and try looking at it from other angles.

Hello:

You are welcome to try this alone or with another person.

Pretend you are someone else that would have a totally different perspective. Examples: a truly good and divine messenger from god, A "person" from an advanced alien race, and so on.

Either ask yourself or have someone ask you questions that you want to examine waaaay outside the box...think how said person would answer the question from their perspective.

I hope this helps

Sometimes having a new vision of what exists in the box places it out of the realm of the box.

You already do.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.
