yes
Sorry but firefighters have to be trusted with people's lives and expensive equipment.
I hope you are able to turn your life around.

Automaticly, No
Each city, county, or district has their own rules, and alot of states have rules that oversee the locals..
In most cases, yeah it will prevent you from becoming a firefighter. BUT not always, Call the state fire marshalls office, see if they allow people with your particular convictions and how long ago it and the DUI were into the fire service..
Even if it is allowed, it will be hard as heck to get past that stigma when other people will be just as well qualified as you or even more with no convictions..
If it is a violent crime or invovles sexual or child crimes, then yeah, you will almost always be dropped.
DUIs if they are several years or more old, you can sometimes get away with..
for people that are currently working as a Firefighter, and THEN you get a DUI, sometimes the department will stand behind you because of your service and they know you. Strangers, they are not as willing to stand behind.
Good luck, but I would also be looking for work elsewhere.

In most places, the felony conviction is enough to prevent you from being a firefighter.

Yes most city governments will not hire anyone convicted of a DUI.

The felony conviction alone is enough to block a civic job. DUI is just confirmation
Look elsewhere

I have a felony conviction and it is on my record for 7 years. I don't think that they can disqualify you for it after the 7 years, but the chances of the district picking a felon or someone without one is high. Its sucks. Good luck.
