The nearest black hole is 1,600 light years from Earth, in the constellation Sagittarius, along with a normal star dubbed V4641 Sgr. So, no...not near. This is from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's website in 2000 (link below).

But, I seem to remember reading an article which indicated that astronomers suspect the existence of a black hole in the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. I provided another link below from the Nature website which briefly discusses that possibility.

And the third link is a photo of same. Cool, huh?

The nearest black hole (that we know of) is in the centre of our galaxy, 25,000 light years away.
So there isn't one near Earth at all.

And a black hole could never engulf the universe - the observed universe is 93 billion light years across (and the actual universe is probably much larger than that).
A black hole can swallow planets and stars, but there are black holes in the centres of many large spiral galaxies (some scientists believe every galaxy has a black hole in the centre) and they don't affect anything except their local region.

Black holes can cause a lot of energy to be blasted out of a galaxy (called an active galactic nucleus - a quasar is one example) and that can interact with the intergalactic medium for hundreds of light years, but that isn't the universe.

Our home planet is not 'near' a black hole. If it was near enough to effect us directly, we would be engulfed. Not the universe, just us and the other nearby matter. Read up.

No, the Earth is not near any black hole. In fact, no one has spotted a black hole yet (but there are a lot of suspects).

I personally think the black hole was voted in in 2000.

Black hole in the center of are galaxy wacth a show its slowly sucking stars and stuff around it in its very big. sooner or later(like a trillon years from now) its going to explode and the big bang will start again. if you were to do feet frist into a balck hole you would be ripped into half then agian and agian itill you are just a molecule floating around in the timeless light sucking funess of a black hole.

If one were close, it would. We also better hope a super fast moving ginormous cloud of radioactive gas doesnt pass over us frying us.
