Most liberals complain about Chavez - the Mugabe of South America. Don't confuse a few whacko celebs with the mainstream of liberals and I won't confuse anti gay folks with the nuts who picket military funerals.
Chavez is trouble - he's a tin horn who is moving to make Venezuela into a dictatorship. It was encouraging to see the demonstrations against him but that seemed to be as effective as those against the Burmese government.
On this, Pat Roberstson was right...

This question doesn't really qualify for an answer so I'll just ask you a simple question in return. Did you bother to read more than the first part of the article? If you had, you would have found that the students being fired on were part of a liberal group opposing Chavez and his dictatorial policies against civil rights and liberties, just as we oppose Bush's policies here in this country. It makes no sense at all that you would suggest that we support Chavez. Typical con reaction, try to twist the facts.

Why do people assume that the opinions of a small group of people on Y/A represent the opinion of the whole country. I am sure that most liberals see Chavez for what he is.

Actually, he isn't my problem and neither is Venezuela. The people in Venezuela voted for him, not U.S. liberals. Maybe you should listen to the debates more closely. The republicans are also talking about universal health care in case you missed that. I'm not a socialist. I would just like to have a historically comparative normal government again instead of this weird mess we have now.

Can any of you point to a single piece of writing by an American liberal holding the opinion that Hugo Chavez is a "hero"
I won't hold my breath.
As always, you people pull stuff out your hind quarters, repeat it among yourselves so often that you begin to believe the crap you invented, then are SHOCKED and call people liars when others call you on it.

I'm liberal and hereby denounce Chavez. Happy?
The Venezuelan people continue to re-elect him, so they will never have my sympathies nor assistance, and Cubans support Castro, and do not have my sympathies. We shouldn't rush in to save the people. That's my point. It's their own fault.

Was Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr responsible for what Timothy McVeigh (registered republican and former NRA member) did?
Of course not.
The people who did this were nutcases. It was not the police or military under the orders of Chavez doing it.

Don't care about Chavez, his country is headed to civil war if he continues on this path.
