Please understand I am not a final authority on anything, I am still learning myself and searching for answers. Here are some things I can see in the Bible that might refer to America.

In Daniel 7:4-7 there are 4 beasts - leopard, bear, lion with eagles wings, and a 10-horned thing.

In Revelation 13:1-2 the beast of the sea is made of the body of the leopard, the feet of the bear, the lion without the wings, and the 7 heads with 10 horns.

I have always been taught that the leopard represents Germany, the bear Russia, the lion England, and the 10 horned thing is the government of rulers. If England is the lion, we came from them and we have always been represented by the Eagle. I think this is us.

In Dan 7:4 the wings were plucked off and were lifted up to stand as a man with the heart of a man. Then in Revelation 12:14 it says that Israel (portrayed here as the woman) was given eagles wings that she may fly into her place and be nourished for 3 1/2 years.

Now, remember, I am learning and will not say I know anything. I am telling you what I think these verses mean. I am not God and do not make the rules. However, if we are indeed represented by Eagles wings in the Bible, we apparently are in league with Isreal. We are plucked off, which would indicate we do not agree with the 10 horned thing and we separate from the beast to protect and nourish Israel at some point during the tribulation.

Now this does not indicate that Christians will be here during the tribulation, as we have had presidents in the past who were not Christians who supported Israel. It does indicate that the USA is still here. At least a remnant or a portion remains. IF indeed, we are the eagles wings.

I didn't really answer your question in a yes and no answer and I wish I knew more myself.

On another note but along the lines of what's happening in the world, check out Ezekiel 38 & 39 about the war of Gog/Magog. You can also check out my blog I have a blog about this war and how it relates to today's countries and the news. This includes Russia and Iran. This war is started against Israel and God finishes it. I have always been taught this is the final war before the rapture. You can email me if you want more!

Some individuals have faith in God, others do not. Those that have faith also know that God communicates all that he is going to do to his servants through prophecies. Just as there existed prophets of old, in the OT, there were many Christian prophets. Though it is true that Christians specifically were told that the day and hour of the end was none of their business, each knew that at most they would have to endure some decades of their own lives before reaping their rewards through the resurrection. As to the big picture, Christians were given clues that things would take their time. (Rev 1:10) Here John is brought to the "Lord's day" in the spirit which obviously meant that the time he lived in was not!!!! Paul in 2 Thess 2:2,3, had told John and all other Christians, "3 that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as if it were by us, as that the day of the Lord is present. 3Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because it will not be unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition." Peter had told us (2 Pet 3:8) that one day is to the Lord as a thousand years and in this manner hinting to Christians that things were going to take time. Finally, Matthew 24:14 taught these Christians that the good news, the gospel, had to be preached globally, this was combined with the 'day of wrath' that would be occurring pre-Armageddon. From the above, we can see that by God's direction the book of Rev is included in the Holy canon. There is no doubt in the mind of the person of faith that this is part of the inspired writings. The other people and their personal opinions you mention have no impact on this faith, and their personal prophecies are just that. The fact that billions may die is not in question Biblically, however, such stating of time to the year is actually a sin. Christians do not and may not know the time of the end. Likewise, there is nothing in Revelation saying anything about the fate of the US in 2008. We do know the general fate of all of the kingdoms of this world (since God's kingdom shall replace them), but most specifics are to be seen when they occur.

When Colonel Taylor sets off the Alpha-Omega Bomb... right after the gorillas shot him, remember? The year will be 3955, according to Drs. Zira and Cornelius.

So, if you consider Taylor a U.S. citizen, then the U.S. dies with him... at the very MOMENT of the Rapture!

If not... then it would occur when Marvin the Martian blasts Earth out of his way, since we obstruct his view of Venus - using, of course, his famous "Uranium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator." It's scheduled for May, so Bugs better hurry up and save us.

Rapture is a song by Blondie.
I guarantee you there will be no biblical rapture.
How does one define the demise of the U.S.?
No longer best educated? Already happened.
No longer the highest standard of living? Already happened.
No longer the world's moral authority? Already happened.
No longer has the strongest currency. It's happening now.
No longer has the largest military? Already happened.
No longer exists? Too many variables.

This question has nothing to do with politics and should probably have been in the RELIGION section.

I have always wondered though, where the concept of the "Rapture" comes from so thanks for the question.

I'm going to the Religion area and ask the question.
