PLEASE watch the video...the patience of this dog is remarkable and the love is so apparent. An experience like this for a child [who is taught appropriately[ can SO enhance their understanding and acceptance for life and living beings.

sorry about the video link - evidently it is now 'dead' - but it showed a yellow/white retriever and a little boy around 3....the dog was super patient and super vigilant about watching over his little charge...the little boy ended up straddling the big dog and just hugging and kissing it.

Children and pets go together. Though the years we had at various times dogs, cats, parakeets, Tropical fish, turtles, a tortoise, Guinna pigs, ducks, and a Bantam rooster. I still love animals. My brothers and I were responsible for their care and it taught us a lot.

I think it depends on the child and on the pet. If a child wants a pet and an appropriate pet is selected then it's a great deal. I've always had dogs. I can't imagine life without a pet, preferably more than one. Some children aren't especially attracted to pets, they have other interests. My kids had a dog. It was wonderful for my son. They were great friends and companions. My daughter could care less.

I couldn't view the video either, but I think it's great for children to have pets. We had birds and dogs when we were small. We even had pet ducks we kept at our grandmothers. I do think kids need to be taught how to care for their pets. It goes a long way in teaching responsibility.

Most definitely. I grew up with cats and dogs, and so did my children, and my grandchildren too. Unfortunately, living in the city, children don't get a good idea of other animals. unless the parent actually take the time, to take them to farms and the zoo.

Every child should have a dog,cat and even a bird.

Yes they do. They teach a child responsibility, respect, compassion, discipline and more. The problem is when the parents don't pick the right match for a pet for their child and when parents don't consistently make the child do the right things to raise the pet.

If possible i think all children should have a pet. Growing up me my two brothers and sister at one time had 50 pigeons, 9 hamsters a cat and a dog. I now have two cats and would feel lost without them.

I can't find it Gaby but I do believe that they belong together. My mom and dad had a German Shepard when I was little, say 3 and under. I can remember laying on my blanket under a willow tree, drinking my bottle and he was next to me. Then I got up and started walking toward the road and he used his teeth to take a hold of my dress and pulled me back down on my butt!!! LOL!
He watched me so well!!

In my family yes, but the pets usually were mine. They started out as my kids but somehow I got them, not that the kids didn't take care of them I just got attached. My grand daughter is the same, my pets now gravitate to her when she comes over.
