Or conversely, what baby names did you seriously suggest that your partner absolutely vetoed? Why?

Assuming that both parents are/were involved in the child's life, who had more influence over its name, the mother or the father?

I should probably have assumed that most responders would be from women.

Did your partner tell you WHY your suggestions were refused? Why did you refuse your partner's suggestions?

I'm not even trying to concieve, but my fiance and I throw around names all the time, for fun and preplanning.

I've already vetoed Leanne and Ernest at all, and Kenneth as a first name. Kenneth is my fiance's middle name, and it's his father's, grandfather's, and brother-in-law's first name. I couldn't bring myself to even think about bringing a fourth Ken into the family. I don't mind it as a middle name, though.

He's absolutely vetoed Sebastian, Charlotte, Harper, Ivy, Kennedy, and Penelope. Margaret is my grandmother's name, so since I'm willing to keep Kenneth as a middle name, he's agreed to keep Margaret as a middle name only.

I don't have kids yet, but I'm assuming I'm going to have the final say, because I have more ideas and stronger opinions than he does.

Houston. We have a daughter named Savannah and he wanted to name our next child Houston. There was no way our children were going to all be named after cities. We are expecting our second child and have both vetoed tons of names. In the end Im sure I will have more say, I picked our daughters name and he didnt even like it at first, but he loves it now, I just know I wont give in to something I think is awful, (like naming the baby after a basketball player)

i vetoed Kelly... i've had bad experiences with kelly's and since our last name starts with a K i didn't like the alliteration factor. he's vetoed Ryan and Zackary just because he didn't like the names. we've agreed on Ashton for a boy and Taylor for a girl... whenever it may happen. but he does say it ultimately comes down to me cuz i'll be having the kids haha

My Ex wanted to name our son George Lucas.

Then he wanted Lucas Sky.

with our second daughter, we ended up putting names into a hat and choosing that way. I can't imagine how poor Ellie would have felt if she'd gotten some of the more.....unusual.....names. (Galadriel was in there)....lol

My current husband and I discussed the girls' names together and he came up with some really good suggestions. Faelene is our oldest together and Lillian is our baby.
He did want to give fae the middle name Avariel......I was not down with that. But my oldest daughter came up with an idea....when she was about 5 she said "Mommy, I think that you should name my new baby sister.....Belle Ariel Jasmine." Ariel stuck. And now fae's initials spell fayt as that's what her dad and I believe brought us together, and kept us together after all the sh*t we've been through.

My husband suggested 'Nori' for a boy. Like hell buddy!!
I pretty much did all the suggesting from there on in with both the kids and he just said yes and no. He didn't really care as long as he didn't hate it. It infuriated me when I got more no's than yes's. But in the end we both agreed and our kids have beautiful names. Now I am trying to pick the third! Thats really hard.

Otto - Because his initials would have been L.O.G.

And we both had influence, but I did all the research on the meanings and spellings and I tend to be the pushier of the two of us...so the bottom line came down to me.

*****One word....

LOG ...

I took the first name, I let daddy have the middle name and last name... :) but I drew the line at log.

Peter! We were looking for biblical names, and although I liked it, I just couldnt do that to a boy! Maybe they don't call boy parts 'peters' anymore but they did when I was young and I figured,w hy risk it? :)

He vetoed most of my girl names--Amelia and Lillian.

Finally settled on Eli!
