the US never has defined what age someone becomes 'senior'. So senior citizens are generally those over 65, but a person can get a social security pension at 62. Generally they wait until 67.(more money)
Lots of people over 60 are not disabled in any way.

Well, I'm 62. I don't consider myself disabled. I'm a bit stiff sometimes but I can do whatever I want physically and mentally. What is the definition of disabled?
I have a friend 72 who still works as an LPN part time. She washes her own windows and keeps on doing what she did when she was 50 including a boyfriend and good sex. So, no, I don't think everyone over 60 is disabled.

Senior Citizen is the correct term. Take a look at a load of movie stars, tv stars who are over 60...and see all the things they do..and the money they still earn. Take a look around in general, and you will see a lot of them putting the under 30's to shame. Disabled can be applied to any age...especially loads of teens and twenties who cant get off their a*ses to work or leave their parents homes.

Senior citizens, older adults, mature adults, the elderly, the aging. these are all names that apply to people aged 60+
What are you talking about - not disabled in some way?
There are many senior citizens that are very healthy and in a good state of physical fitness. I know a 91 year old that just completed a marathon!

I am almost 71 and I have nothing wrong with me at all.I still work 4 days a week and on my days off, I have been building a patio for a lady friend measuring 25 feet x 16 feet.I worked fro 51 years before retiring age ( I left school at 14 in my days), and have never been out of work in my life. The job I am doing now sometimes has late hours where I work up to 8pm. from 9am. Keep working.....It keeps you active and young.

They're called "senior citizens", or just "seniors". And what do you mean "disabled". My parents are over 60 and not disabled in any way - unless you count my mum's unfortunate habit of issuing statements from her mouth before her brain is in gear as being disabled (I do).

They should be called "senior citizens". Calling them "OAPs" or "Old Aged Pensioners" is just rubbing it in 3 times over!

Old Dominion University (ODU) is a public research university located in Norfolk, Virginia, U.S. It was established in 1930 as the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. ODU awarded its first bachelor's degrees in 1956 and became an independent institution in 1962.
Old age consists of ages nearing or surpassing the average life span of human beings, and thus the end of the human life cycle. Euphemisms and terms for older people include seniors — chiefly an American usage — or elderly. Some believe there to be prejudice against older people in Western cultures, which is one form of ageism.
Older people have limited regenerative abilities and are more prone to disease, syndromes, and sickness than other adults. For the biology of ageing, see Senescence. The medical study of the aging process is gerontology, and the study of diseases that afflict the elderly is geriatrics
Old age often causes wrinkles, liver spots, loss of hair/baldness, change of hair color (usually grey or white), impaired speech, hearing, sight, speed, thinking pace, and agility.
In most parts of the world, women live, on average, longer than men. In the United States in the late 1990s, life expectancy at birth was 80 years for women and 77 years for men. American women who were age 65 in the late 1990s could expect to live about 19 additional years. Men who were 65 could expect to live about 16 additional years.
The boundary between middle age and old age cannot be defined exactly because it does not have the same meaning in all societies. In many parts of the world, people are considered old because of certain changes in their activities or social roles. Examples: people may be considered old when they become grandparents, or when they begin to do less or different work — retirement. In the United States and Europe, people are often considered old if they have lived a certain number of years.
Many Americans think of 65 as the beginning of old age because United States workers become eligible at this time to retire with full Social Security benefits at age 65. People in the 65-and-over age group are often called senior citizens. In 2003, the age at which an American citizen becomes eligible for full Social Security benefits began to increase gradually until it reaches 67 in 2027.
There are many stereotypes about elderly people, such as; the use of walking sticks, frequent doctor visits, and sleeping a lot. These can be seen however to be untrue and very judgmental, most old people are very capable of easy mobility and caring for themselves, however there are some illnesses that can be seen to come with old age.
