you now when you install the game or expation pack you need to put in a code i lost mine is there a way to get another one why do they even do the codes any way?

If you registered your game, you can get the code from the Sims 2 website. If you did not register your game, you can contact EA Games for a new code; that will cost you $10.
Codes are there to prevent software piracy. Each code is good for that disc, and that disc only.

I am not sure where you can find a new code but I can answer your other question.
The reason they use those codes is so people do not just buy the game and let a bunch of other people use the same disc to install the game on their computer. The code that you get with your game only works once and only on the first computer that it is installed on.
