the square represents rigid perfection:

you can't step outside the square or modify it (other than enlarge/reduce it) without turning it into something else ... whereas a rectangle has some leeway and can retain its shape in many different forms, a square is clear and precise

This is really far to broad a question to be useful. The square is just a mathematical shape, and doesn't have a particular meaning unless it is within a specific context.
