I live in an old brownstone with big, drafty windows. I've heard people tape up their windows to prevent drafts. Does anyone know how to do this? Does it entail a lot of work?

buy the winterizing kits from the hardware store.

it includes double back tape and plastic (kinda like plastic wrap). it's pretty easy to install (i would practice on a back window that you don't see very often in case it goes on wrinkled at first until you get the hang of it). you just need a hand held blow dryer to firm up the plastic once it's up.

If you are a renter, this is about all you can do...oh, you could add some weatherstripping around the window in addition to the shrink fit mentioned above. Hanging thermal drapes helps a bit but the cold air still seeps around the sides.

Tape plastic around them. Cheap and fast.
