they didn't leave, they were captured by slave traders from America and shipped back to be sold into slavery, often been split up from their families. look up the history and there you will find more answers.

They were mostly slaves of other black people in Africa who were sold to Europeans (i.e., Europeans and Americans did not invent slavery, they just exploited it to build the economy of America).
