Yes...a 6 month old baby can benefit greatly from drinking water......his body is growing very quickly and water helps the process along. Things a 6 month old baby does NOT need is coke, other soft drinks, juices made with high fructose corn syrup, coffee, beer and the like. (Some people Do give these things to babies..NO JOKE)
The water has many "jobs" including carrying waste out of the body...since baby has very rapid metabolism, there is much "waste" to remove. I'm talking about "chemicals" which form naturally. Water is good for all the body systems. It seems to follow that the sooner he is exposed to water, the better off he is. We teach our children how to eat....water is a very good choice to include in his diet while he is young. Do what is right for YOU. Everyone has their own idea of what is right and wrong for children. A little common sense goes a long way.....you are doing a great job...

Not really the baby gets all nutients from formula/ breast milk, the only reason why i would see a doc telling a mother to give a infant water is if the baby has traces of thrush. Thrush is a white coding on the tounge and if water is drunk for this purpose it wouldn't be of a great amount. Water takes away from the amount of formula that a baby will drink.

He gets it in his formula/breastmilk. The only reason we tell parents to start water at this age is because it's a good time to introduce a sippy cup, and you can use water when doing so, but even then no more than 6 oz a day of water, so that they don't replace any milk feeding with water.

If your baby is still given unrestricted access to the breast, then no, he doesn't need water. If he is bottlefed, he can still get away without it, but it would make him have more milk and this could lead to unnecessary fat. My babies only had breast milk for the first 6 months and then started on solids. I didn't give any other fluids apart from my breast milk until about 14 months, at which time they started to drink very dilute juice.

No, he doesn't need it.
In fact, water might make him feel too full to drink his breastmilk/formula. Water in infants is NOT always a good idea because it can cause the electrolytes of their small bodies to be off, leading to seizures and other issues.
If your baby is still taking in your milk, then he doesn't need extra water.

Some doctors say yes from about 1 month especially around immunisation time some say not till later on around the same time u introduce solids. Personally with both my daughters I would give them a small amount of water via a medicine eye dropper, every other day, from about 2 months on. Sometimes milk either breast or bottle doesn't quiet quench their thirst. Water is good for them, just make sure its boiled clean water.

I gave my son the occasional bottle of water (bottled not tap) I was told it would flush his mouth out and it was good for him. He is now a sturdy healthy 4 year old. But if you don't want to don't. If you wnat to wait to introduce water thats fine too.

Doctors say they don't need water yet...formula and food are enough, but babies get thirsty too. Even if it's just a small amount of water it's not going to hurt anything. It's just water.
