clothes washer only works on cold?

it only works on the cold water settings i have checked the lines. i pulled out the piece where the hookups are and i dont think the hot water valve is opening or is it something else. has anyone experienced this.

The flow of water into the washing machine is controlled by a solenoid-operated valve. If either the hot water solenoid, the connection from the timer to the solenoid, or the timer mechanism/circuit itelf goes bad, this would prevent the hot water from flowing into the washing machine.

You might also want to verify that the hot water spigot valve is open.
