Many people say it is not possible to have a positive pregnancy test so soon, I tested 10 days after conception and it was about 9 days before my period was due. I'm wandering if maybe my pregnancy dates are misleading because of being on the combined pill, which may have affected my periods.

It is safe for me to say you are going to be a mommy. False positives are very rare.

When a women becomes pregnant her body starts to produce a hormone called hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) This hormone give the positive result on both urine and blood based tests. hCG is produced by the embryo at implantation (when it starts to implant itself into the utering lining.) Implantation occurs 6-10 days after conception. As the embryo grows, the amount of hCG increases and doubles approximately every 2-3 days.

Not all pregnancy tests are created equal. The more sensitive the test (the smaller amount of hCG it can detect), the earlier the opportunity to detect pregnancy. That means with a test sensitive to 20 mIU/ml hCG, a home pregnancy test is accurate as early as six to eight days after conception, well before your first missed period. NOTE: Conception may take place several days after date of intercourse, so the date of intercourse should not necessarily be viewed as the day of conception.

"Many people" are wrong, all they need to do is ask a medical professional. It is possible to have a positive pregnancy test 10 days after conception. However, please remember that not ALL women who are pregnant will show positive after 10 days. It also depends on how good the test is. Being on the pill will not affect the outcome of a pregnancy test, because a test is looking for the presence of hCG. This hormone is not included in the pill, it is only produced by the body if you are pregnant (or on fertility treatment, but I am assuming you are not if you are taking the pill). Bear in mind however that early testing can pick up a pregnancy that may not actually become viable - these are known as "chemical pregnancies". See your doctor and get some more advice and information.

A positive is a positive. There are cases of women having so much of the HCG hormone already at that point that they are able to test positive. False positives are very rare.

At 10DPO, some tests can pick up HCG levels already so, no it is not neccessarily too early. If you are still wondering about the date of conception and think that the dates may be off, your doctor may oder a sonogram to determine how far along you are. Congrats...........
