I'm only 16 weeks along, but for about a week I swear I've been feeling them. It isn't gas, I've had two children so I know what it feels like, it thought this happened a little bit later. Today they feel alot stronger than they have over this past week since I started feeling them. Is this not just the coolest part of the pregnancy?? And this may sound just a little greedy, but I think it is so cool that this is something only I can feel right now, don't get me wrong I can't wait for my hubby and the kids to feel the baby kick, but it's kinda cool having this exclusive connection with the baby.

I am pregnant with my first, and I read that first timers won't feel anything until close to 20 weeks, but I felt the first flutters of my son at 16 weeks too! You are right, it is not gas, it feels very different! My husband wasn't able to feel anything for months later, but it IS very exciting!! Also, I have heard and read that if this is NOT your first, you will feel movements sooner than a first-timer!!

Let me share:

Between 14-16 weeks I began to feel the "butterflies", which to me, were nothing like gas! The thing was that I'd feel them one day, then not for days at all, so I began to think Hmm well maybe it is gas and I'm just feeling it different from being pregnant! They progressed into feeling like little "thumps" kinda like your heart beating in your belly. Then at about 18 weeks, the butterflies turned into *definite* kicks, and by about 20 weeks I could see movement! Every woman does experience this a little differently. At 29 weeks and though I know you can feel movement from outside, my husband still never has. Whenever the husband is around and I say "come feel the baby!"...he stops moving. (stubborn little booger already! ) There are times when he can see the movement, then he'll just put his hand on my stomach, he'll stop moving then too! Kid already takes after his father....

Its not uncommon at 16 weeks, to mistake the movement for gas and not to feel it quite as much as someone who has been pregnant before. It actually got a bit easier for me to differentiate, because after a while I noticed real gas pains (which, *sigh*, those too were abundant at the time...) would start as sorta the rumbly feeling, then turn into their usual tummy pains. The ones that stayed rumbly and fluttery feeling--that was the baby. As you get further along you'll realize you were feeling the baby move after all, just I do understand how it can be a bit worrisome when you just can't really tell the difference yet!

No, it's still a bit early for the ability to feel fetal movement. Sometimes you do feel the movement a couple or three weeks earlier, but not this early. Congrats anyway, and soon enough you'll be feeling that little one.

I have had 3 babies, and I would have to say that I could feel the second one the soonest. It was probably around 16 weeks. I was getting alarmed with my last one when I was passing my 21st week, and I still hadn't felt him move. I think it was because I was more over-weight with the last pregnancy, so there was more padding to feel through:)
I couldn't wait for my Husband to feel the baby move. I felt like I could finally share some of the joy with him.
I'm all done having kids, but the parts I miss the most is feeling the baby move!

I felt my first at 16 weeks, it felt like the fluttery gas bubbles.

Now with my second I started feeling them at 13/14 weeks.

I believe the general rule is you feel each baby move earlier and earlier with each pregnancy, so this sounds perfectly normal!

And yes I do think this is the best part of pregnancy... And yes I also liked being alone in my own little world, just me and my new baby sometimes... like I was super special cause only I had this gift. :)

Congrats!

Some times you will feel the flutter as early as 14 weeks! But not all pregnancy's are the same, its around the 20+ weeks that you should be feeling your baby move every hour of every day! Good luck!

With my first, I felt movement at around 3 months. With my second, it was definitely 3 months. With the third, I think it was 4 months.

I agree with you, it is kinda cool to feel something so a part of you, yet at the same time, it is a separate entity. The only time I didn't enjoy feeling them move around was when they were so big, and we'd fight because all of my sons would stick their feet right under my left ribs, and that was really uncomfortable.

It's normal to feel the baby's fluttering at around 16 weeks...and since you've had 2 other babies, you're more sensitive to the feeling. Woman with only one baby isn't used to the feeling, so it's often mistaken for gas or tummy rumbles.
And yes! It is an awesome feeling only for you!

Well every pregnancy is different and it also depends on your weight. However the norm is 4/5 months along.. However when I was particularly thin I felt slight movements at 3 and a half months! Congrats!

I agree, its such a special feeling to be the first person on earth to communicate with your baby! I was about the same when I first felt the baby and the bubble around him moving around. its not gas its your muscles twitching in response to your baby's movements! You can see great illustrations of this on webmd.com as well as on pregnancyweekly.com and they will update you week by week in your email!
