Why do some sports teams pass off yellow as gold?

For real, this is one of my peeves. They are two different colors people!

Gold: Saints, Penguins, Padres, Stars
Yellow: Lakers, Packers, Steelers, Bruins, Sabres

Because gold sounds better than yellow. The "Blue and Gold" sounds better than the "Yellow and Gold," even if the latter is more accurate.

Or how about the Oakland Raiders? The "Silver and Black" sounds better than the "Gray and Black." Kind of the same thing.

Because it sounds better. Blue and yellow sounds like colors for fingerpainting, but blue and GOLD... that's a winning combination! (... even if their uniforms are actually blue and yellow.)

edit: Gold is the color of rich people. Yellow is a color of happy people. It isn't cool to be happy, it's cool to be rich.

gold just sounds better.like 1st place is gold so its better than getting yellow.like the gold star instead of the yellow star.its all the same really.but its not a big deal.

In this instance Gold is a color shade not actual GOLD.

And in the grand scheme of things does it really matter?

Often, Gold paint is more expensive and once tradition is made, it is incredibly difficult to change.

i guess for fans, more people have yellow than gold so they dress in yellow for their teams. thats what people in our school do
