its the raw egg in fresh Caesar dressing...it can contain salmonella

bottled Caesar would be fine because there aren't raw eggs in there....

it has nothing to do w/ the anchovies.

this tells you what foods to avoid (some) during PG:

You can eat it - in general. The reason some people think you can't is that SOMETIMES ceaser dressing is made from raw eggs. Most places no longer do this. If you are having it at a restaraunt, just ask to be sure. Even if you have eaten it, or do happen to consume raw eggs, you are only at risk of the eggs were bad. So your chances are very very slim from having issues from it. Go ahead and enjoy your salad - add some chicken and some hard boiled egg and its a a great - protien filled meal.

Wow i never thought of this, i am 33 weeks and have always eaten ceaser salad. But I buy the kind in the package you know the complete salad in a bag and read the label , it is all pasteurized but i would be careful of other brands that do not pasteurize. There are raw ingredients in the dressing. You can get listeriosis or other kinds of food poisoning from it very bad for baby and you. Good luck and always make sure you check to see if your food is pasteurized.

Absolutely, as long as there isn't any unpasteurized cheeses then eat away. I don't think feta or Parmesan is unpasteurized. There aren't too many things you can't eat. There are a few such as fish high in mercury like swordfish (you can eat other fish such as tuna or salmon), or unpasteurized foods, or deli meats not heated to steaming(as it could have listeria) It's brie and cheeses like that you need to worry about. As long as the doctor doesn't say it is off limits, help yourself. If you still feel unsure, it wouldn't hurt to call the doctors office and give them a ring. It would make you feel better.

You aren't supposed to eat raw fish while pregnant and Ceasar dressing can be made with raw anchovies in it (usually). You just need to be careful so that it's fresh and not old or bad. You can get violently ill (even when not pregnant) from eating bad raw fish. It's not going to turn your baby into a squid or anything ;)

The only reason that I can see it being bad is the raw egg. But eating raw egg is bad for everyone not just pregnant people.

Its fine to eat a ceaser salad it is made up of all fresh ingredients so i dont see how it would do you any harm at all.
You should even try adding some grilled chicken or making a greek salad an adding some spiced beef or lamb for something different.

They may tell you not to eat Ceasar salad because of the possibility of LISTERIOSIS, which can be devastating. they'll tell you to stay away from deli meat, hot dogs, soft cheese (brie, etc) and to definitaly stay away from unpasturized products.

On the other hand, Congrats!

it's the anchovies that are in the dressing. you are supposed to avoid certain fish while preggers because of the high mercury levels. Just have a ceaser that doesn't have anchovies in it. There are plenty of dressings to choose from that don't.
