Have you taken dance before? If so, what kind? Modern jazz is very similar to regular jazz. It's just you move more freely instead of...well jazzy. Some studio's incorpirate jazz and modern jazz into one class because there isn't that big a difference to them. Some studio's even take out their jazz and modern programs and add a modern jazz class. Usually only if the other classes aren't doing good though. I currently am taking ballet and modern.
Hope this helped!

Almost everyone is wrong. modern jazz also known as just modern or contemporary is a type of dance derived from ballet and jazz. it is not as technical or as formal as the two. when you see a modern dance it normally makes you think and you don't understand the meaning of the performance. it is not "Sad ***. It's not dancing, it's music. You wouldn't appreciate it anyway it" that is completely wrong. it can be very happy or even comical it just depends on the choreographer. and anyone who loves dance would appreciate it very much. modern is very different from jazz or ballet. its normally done barefoot and it normally resembles modern art and music.
