Power corrupts, ultimate power, corrupts ultimately. Use that quote. No the government has to be restrained and subject to the rule of law. The laws are made by elected members of parliament in a democracy. The laws are policed by the police and the power of the courts.

Ooh, boy. Good luck with that one. I'd say your best shot at a good grade is to either come up with the dumbest, most transparent arguments possible, so it's more a parody of the position; or 'think outside the box' and actually argue the opposite.

well i dont believe in anything im going to say but i loved debate so I would go with
1. we ARE the government so we are just giving ourselves the leeway to keep ourselves safe.
2. the constitution will balance itself back out when the need subsides.
3. (shakey) we have never fought a battle like this before so in extreme times it calls for extreme measures.

kinda lame, but may be helpful.

Look at the Patriot Act - some say it goes against the right to privacy, but others say it is necessary to ferret out the terrorists.

Good luck in your debate!

If anyone believes that the U.S. Government should have more power, it is only because they place their faith in that goverment as they have allowed themselves to become decieved by it's constant distribution of propaganda.

The U.S. Governmebt is NOT your friend. They only seek to enslave you.
