You mean like, do I have a hulking, sweating brute, standing over my shoulder with a cat 0' nine tails, ugring me to "Draw! Draw! Draw faster!"
No, not since I went freelance.
But now I have multiple clients, each with their own deadlines and each convinced that their project should be priority. I kind of miss that big ol' brute. He was MUCH nicer!
Keep in mind, that, as a freelance designer, if I don't produce, I don't get paid, so, some months can be pretty lean. It is a rare year that I don't have to go out and get a job to make ends meet. It also means that a BIG percentage of what I do is SALES, plain and simple. I have to let potential clients know I am available, and remind them of what it is I can do for them.
There is also a LOT of paperwork involved, the same as for any small business owner: Drawing up contracts, dunning for payments, accounting, taxes, filing, sorting, cataloging, research, etc.
Once in a while, I get to draw something.

Aside from the pencil, drawing boards.paper, brushes and other materials they should have also the office equipment, computers, scanner, photocopier, telephone and fax machine. They have reference books around the world and daily newspaper to keep them update of other cartoonist.
