I do agree we should not be in the business of supporting dictators. However, who else does Pakistan have? Bhutto should have been in jail for pilfering their treasuries. The democratically elect were robbing Pakistan blind. Musharraf (and I have been told this by many native Pakistanis) was a hell of a lot better then anybody else they ever had. Also, I prefer him to some Islamic Fundamentalist nutjob coming in. They do have nukes and that is really scary.

We have been in the business of supporting dictatorships since... forever. And it will never stop. Every time you go to Walmart (or any store for that mater) and insist upon getting the best price, you're most likely buying something made in China, thus indirectly supporting their brutal communist dictatorship. The United States behaves like a college student with a new credit card. We do things that make sense in the short run, but cost of dearly decades down the road.

We supported Noriega in the 60's and 70's, Saddam and the Taliban (back when they were fighting the Soviets) in the 80's and in the 90's we gave China most favored Nation status. Now we're supporting Musharraf, while he's dismantling his country's democracy. It will end when the planets line up, the cows come home, the fat lady sings and hell gets a dusting of fresh powder.

Musharraf will be the new Shah of Iran. Hated by his people, but supported by the U.S. When he is finally deposed, the people and their new govt. will despise the U.S. and Pakistan has nukes!

Reminds me of the Reagan Administration's backing of Sadaam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.

Only a couple of decades ago.

I agree with you on this issue. The US should support ideas and governments, not individuals.
