Most proper facilities will not like the use of wikipedia because it can be edited by anybody. So when you do your speech, if you want to use wikipedia read the site and look at the sources at the bottom of the article.

Follow the sources and use those sources rather than referencing the wikipedia site (which might lessen the credibility of your presentation).

A good website would be drugwarfacts.org. Basically it states all kind of statistics including cause of death in the United States. Such as the 435,000 tobacco related deaths in the year 2000, and the estimated 35,000 deaths a year attributed to alchohol. When is the last time you have heard of a death as the result of marijuana. according to every source I know there is none. That's right ZERO marijuana related deaths. Peolpe say that cannabis smoke has some crazy number of tars and carcinogens, much more than tobacco. Than why aren't we dying from it? As most western medicine does they are failing to take into account the synergistic properties that may be in marijuana smoke. It is believed that the terpenes and terpenoids ( i think?) nullify any carcinogens that may be present. Also no one takes into account that there is a big market now for cannabis vaporizers, and that you can eat hash, or hash laced food for pain relief. Or to just get stoned. (Brownies anyone?) It is irrational that any thirteen year old kid can get into his police officer daddy's liquor cabinet grab his state issued firearm ,and do something very stupid, but responsible adults, not to mention cancer, aids, M.S. arthritis, and a host of other victims cannot self medicate with a silly plant that never hurt anyone. ( If you don't take into account the men and women beaten ,and raped in prison as a result of cannabis persucution). And speaking of children, illegalizing marijuana makes it cool and rebelious to do. Most kids now days shun tobacco, but smoke marijuana to "rebel". Also do you know how hard it was for me as an adolescent to get alchohol. Since it is legal no one wanted to put their *** on the line to get a kid drunk. Pot on the other hand is illegal. So... If I'm going to jail regardless ,and this is my source of income, than why shouldn't I sell to kids?That is the mentality of drug dealers. By illegalizing it you put it into the hands of irresponsible criminals and also criminalize otherwise law abiding citizens. Maybe you should focus on the general marijuana subject, instead of just the medical issue. A good referennce book is Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts, and why marijuana should be legal. The "medical" argument is just taking advantage of a psychological principle called the "Crowbar". Basically when you want to get a close minded fool to open up you just change the context of whatever you are asking, such as killing another human being. We would all agree this is unacceptable. If I asked you " would you kill someone?" You would ( hopefully) say no. Now if I asked you " If someone was about to rape and murder your family, would you kill someone" I'm sure you would answer yes. The same goes for Marijuana. People are conditioned by the Government to hate it for no good reason, but what if was a poor little old lady with cancers only medecine? I think it is a shifty trick, but this is what it comes down to. It is Annahauser Busch ( sorry for spelling) and R.J. Reynolds ( tobacco giant) and Merck, and Eli Libby, and Squib and all these other pharmeceutical, tobacco ,and alchohol companies keeping it illegal. Not any danger. There is a lot of money to be made ,and if people start to ( god forbid) grow their own recreational drugs, and medicine than their empires will topple to the ground. It's sickening. On the other hand,maybe you should focus peoples attention on China and the growing communist threat. Are you even aware what is happening in Tibet? Until recently I was just as blind as any. That is the way our country wants it though. And the suffering of the people of Iraq. There is no reason why marijuana shouldn't be legal , but there are more pertinant issues my friend. Wal- Mart and other " discount" shopping centers are directly fueling child and slave labor. ( why do you think you got that dining set for three dollars) We are China's biggesttrasding partner ,and we aren't selling them anything. We have created a 87 billion dollar trade deficit in their favor. We talk of freedom? Do you know what they do to buddhists and christians or anyone who dares speak against the gov't? They are tortured ,and than publicly executed. Enjoy your realtive freedoms now because your children will not. This is not fantasy my friend. The wheels are turning as we sit on our fat a$$es and vote for American Idol and slover over who's f'ing who, and Britney's fat a$$. God save us from ourselves.
