No.
Make sure you've done all basic maintenance (defrag, clear cache, etc., make sure vitual memory is set correctly.)
If that doesn't fix it you need a new puter with faster processor etc.
More RAM might do it, but no guarantee.

it is a common misconception that " I have too much stuff on my computer, and that is why it is slow !" .
since the above is wrong, then an external hard disc, will in no way boost your computer.
If you are after speed, beware of another misconception, " More RAM will make your computer faster !" , wrong again ! more RAM only improves performance, if you do not have enough.
For windows XP, running general applications (i.e nothing specially memory hungry like some games ) , you ill see little benefit once you have 768MB of memory ( in fact 512MB is quite sufficient), and in vista once you have 1GB , you do not need any more, unless you start a specific application that needs plenty of memory, and only that application benefits from increased memory.
Beware, Memory is not Hard disc space , if you run out of disc space, it does not mean you are now short of memory !
Many people think if their computer has got slower over time, it is because it needs some kind of hardware boost, not true , most computers benefit greatly if you take them to a qualified engineer, to figure out why it is slow, and some times it is the ONLY way !

hi ron
no not really mate,a external hard drive is mainly a storage device and has no real bearing on the overall speed of your p.c
the only speed tweak that can be done with a storage device is the page file thats done using your main internal hard drive
the page file,or more commonly known as the "virtual memory" is used when your main memory(ram)runs out, your virtual memory is normally one and a half times the size of your system memory, for example a p.c with 1gb ram will have a virtual memory of 1.5gb
also in vista you can use a removable storage device like a usb memory stick to enable "speedboost",this works much in the same way as the page file in xp
hope this helps
good luck ron !

The interface is too slow to speed it up, try installing Windows on one hard drive and your other programs on another.
